Certain Points of View

"The Force is like duct tape.  It has a light side and a dark side.  And it binds the galaxy together."

- Unknown.

"There is no emotion, there is peace.
There is no ignorance, there is knowledge.
There is no passion, there is serenity.
There is no death, there is the force."

"Peace is a lie, there is only passion.
Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.
The Force shall set me free."

The below discourse is the thesis for which the Force Rules outlined on the other pages of this website will be created with regards to the aspects of light and dark.  Throughout the years the Force has been described as either being inherently separated into two divisions, light and dark.  The contention of the author of these rules is that the Force is in actuality one entity divided by different philosophies of use.

The Force is a two sided coin when it comes to philosophies. There is the side of the Light and of the Dark.  These two paths have come to be wholly permeated by their own philosophy of what the Force should be used for and the nature of life itself.  The chosen sides reflect the desires of the Force user: for the use of defense and knowledge on the side of the light, for the use of conquest and immortality of the dark.

Philosophy is key to the differences of the two sides.  There is very little room for an exception to either side.  You are either light or dark.  There is no grey.  The Jedi accept the presence of those who profess not to be, in nature, good, but believe them to be so.  Else wise it would be their duty to end their dark deeds.  The Dark Siders might very well leave you in contempt or kill you for the same reason.

The Jedi believe in using the Force for "knowledge and defense, never attack."  They use the Force to the benefit of all, not just themselves.  Do not let their ideals fool you, however.  They will attack if they perceive that their attack is in the defense of the greater good.  As one Jedi Master whimsically put, we must learn to recognize that the truth depends upon a certain point of view.

This does not excuse the use of the Dark side.  But what is the dark side? How can their be two sides to one entity such as the Force?

The truth is there are not two sides of the Force.  There are only two sides to using the Force.  In anger and hate a Force user may use the dark side.  In compassion and stillness of emotion user may use the Light.  With respect to life the Light side may be used, with scorn to it the dark side reigns.  Do not let yourself be fooled by the thought your actions are light when your character acts out of hate or disgust.

The Force is neutral in itself.  Some powers derived from the Force, however, are powers that can only be achieved  by the use of certain emotions that are of one side or the other.  Compassion and love allow the Jedi to become one with the Force, yet remain individually conscious.  Hate and anger make the Dark Jedi able to maintain their lives and build their strength.

In the end our side depends eagerly upon our philosophy.
